Fall is in the air. Leaves are changing colors, pumpkin spice lattes are back, and jack o’ lanterns are on just about every doorstep. Along with the treats that Halloween season brings, there are also tricks; and the biggest trick of all? Crime. In a recent report by CBS News – they stated that crime on Halloween spikes, on average, by about 17%. That’s a pretty frightening statistic.

The ‘Pre-Halloween’ Burglary
Did you know that burglars like to trick or treat too? – they even like to get dressed up! This past September in Wichita Falls, Texas, two spooky suspects broke into a local shop and left with multiple items. The Crime Stoppers of Wichita Falls offered a reward to anyone who could identify the thieves, but it’s been a difficult task to distinguish who could be under a jack-o-lantern and clown mask.

Playing Peek-a-BOO with Cameras
Each Fall season, homeowners are eager to pass out candy to hundreds of trick-or-treaters. They open their door to play-pretend versions of princesses, professional athletes, animals, superheroes, and so much more. However, it is safe to say that homeowners are not as willing to open their doors to creepy clowns. In Jacksonville, Florida, a trio of creepy clowns was caught going around to neighborhoods and popping in and out of security cameras to spook the homeowners.

Working the Graveyard Shift
One graveyard shift was more than enough for a security guard at a Naval Air Station. While the guard was on duty, he heard voices coming from the mechanic shop. He found it suspicious because no one was on the premises except for him and another senior guard. They both dismissed the voices and figured they were psyching themselves out. However, just an hour later they heard voices again accompanied by the sound of tools being thrown. Scared, both guards continued to dismiss the mysterious activity coming from the shop and decided to act as if nothing ever happened. The following day, the guard checked in with the mechanics and they all claimed that none of their tools had been moved during the night.

There’s a Burglar in My Bed!
What’s spookier than your most valuable jewels being stolen? Losing sleep. In Sarasota, Florida, a house was targeted for the homeowner’s jewelry. Luckily, the thief was not successful, but it had nothing to do with a security system. When the housekeeper went into the homeowner’s bedroom the following morning, she found a burglar sleeping on top of the bed with an entire bag of jewelry. The thief must have been exhausted from plotting the heist because not even the cops woke him up when they were taking pictures of the scene!

In 1974, a couple was returning to their Ferrari after running a few errands. They were surprised when they realized that the car was missing from the parking spot.
Four years later and there were no still leads on the whereabouts of the Ferrari… UNTIL one day when a few kids were digging in their backyard. They ended up finding the missing Ferrari under the very ground they were playing on.

Who Stole the Rabbit?
There are some scenes out of movies that deserve to stay on the big screen, one of those being an encounter with Michael Myers. This spooky story is about a homeowner who was reminded all too well of the horror film character when checking their doorbell camera. Around 4:00 a.m., someone walked onto their front porch wearing a Michael Myers mask and decided to steal the lawn ornament of a bunny that was sitting on a bicycle and walked away.
Even, Michael Myers would be spooked away by AMAROK’s Electric Guard Dog fence!

Buried Below
When a couple believed that their car was being vandalized by a group of devious teenagers, they decided to set up a security camera to catch them. They were spooked when they saw what appeared to be a ghost flying over their car.

A security guard who was working alone was used to quiet nights in the warehouse. He noticed a group of people entering the elevator from the fourth floor, which was particularly odd considering they were closed. Concerned, he monitored all lobbies outside of the elevator to see which floor the mysterious bunch would land on, but when the doors slid open, no one stepped out. Much to his dismay, he never saw them again. The building was placed on lockdown for guards to search for the group, but they were never found.

Haunted? or Just Windy?
Homework and tests are not the only things students are afraid of at a school in Ireland. CCTV cameras caught sight of lockers swinging open, papers flying around, and even a wet floor sign being knocked to the ground; however, an individual was never detected in the footage. Could it be a mysterious gust of wind? Or was the school haunted?

False Alarm… Or Is It?
While a man was sleeping, he kept getting woken up by notifications on his phone from his security app. These notifications happened between the hours of 12:07 a.m., and 4:07 a.m., occurring four separate times.
He figured the first three notifications were false alarms because there was no activity that seemed out of the ordinary. However, the fourth and final notification showed a mysterious face popping into the camera. That was enough to keep him up at night!

A Mask So Real-Looking, Paparazzi is Tricked
Masks are not just worn for an added scare factor in horror movies or to complete a Halloween costume; sometimes, they are used as a disguise in break-ins and robberies. A thief in Ohio can thank a “hyper-realistic” mask company for the short-lived success of his bank robberies. The disguise was so realistic that when seven bank tellers were asked to identify the culprit, six identified the wrong man. His own mother could not even identify him!

Straight Out of a Halloween Movie
In this story, a woman in Virginia installed security cameras in her home for protection, but they ended up detecting something else. A white orb appeared in front of the camera at 4:00 a.m., spooking the homeowners. What made matters worse is that when the woman’s daughter saw the video she said “That was what Aunt Debbie looked like”; however, the child’s aunt had recently passed away. On a separate night, the camera mysteriously stopped working when it caught a black cat on camera.
