The U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) issued a terrorist threat alert this year to freight, truck rental, distribution, and bus companies. The alert warns of the risk of trucks being used as weapons in so-called vehicle ramming attacks. The TSA noted that between 2014 and the date of the report, there have been 17 such attacks. These terror attacks killed a total of 173 people and injured 667 more.

The TSA terrorist threat report lists several ways that commercial trucks vehicles may be obtained from your site. To eliminate the risk of this type of terrorism in your truck yard, we have listed a variety of tips to help you secure your trucks and vehicles.

Insiders

The first step to reducing the probability of a terrorist threat is to conduct background checks with your staff. Also, the TSA advises companies to track vehicles and ensure that they stay on route.

Hijacking

Your employees could be at risk of a commercial terror attack or cargo theft. They should remain aware of their surroundings while they are driving. Your staff members should lock each truck at gas stations and stop lights. Suspicious activities should be reported to the authorities.

Theft

It’s important to implement strong security protocols on your property or at your warehouse to help reduce the probability of hijackings and industrial terrorist threats. Ensure that your site has a layered security system that is used routinely and tested regularly.

Rental or Purchase

Does your site rent or sell trucks to the public? Beware of unusual requests, altered documents, or a lack of familiarity with commercial vehicles.

TSA provides more detailed guidance to combat these terrorist threats. It is up to all of us to do our part.

A terror attack on one of us affects us all as Americans. But it also affects business. During times of crisis, the police must remain focused on the threat, leaving your commercial property or truck yard vulnerable to intrusion. The first goal of the police is to protect the public from terrorist threats.

To ensure your cars, trucks, and inventory are safe from commercial burglaries, it’s important to invest in an industrial perimeter security system and electric security fence. As TSA states in its report, “no community, large or small, rural or urban, is immune” to terror attacks or theft. “Good security is good business. TSA recommends that you take an active role in protecting your business and your community from this potential threat.” If you’re worried about the security of your employees and inventory, give our team a call by phone at (800) 432-6391 to discuss industrial security. AMAROK is a perimeter security organization that offers electric security fences, alarms, and video surveillance systems.
