What to Expect During Electric Fence Installation

Table of Contents

Installing The Electric Guard Dog Fence is an important step toward protecting your assets. Our customers see a 99% reduction in external theft after installation, so you can be confident your investment will be effective.

That said, you’re likely wondering about the installation process. How will it impact your daily operations? What will you be responsible for before, during, and after installation? This blog lays out all the details.

Installations Part I: What to Expect During the Planning Phase

We must take a few steps before we install The Electric Guard Dog Fence. Each ensures we provide a perimeter security solution that’s both effective and compliant.

What to Expect During the Planning Phase

1. Receive a Free Site Survey and Risk Assessment

Electric fence installation begins with a site survey and risk assessment. During this stage, our perimeter security experts will assess your vulnerabilities and determine your security needs.

Our team will consider the local crime data during their assessment to evaluate your risk level. With this information, they’ll create a custom electric fence layout that suits your property.

2. Sign a Contract and Meet Your Dedicated Project Manager

Once you’re ready for our team to install The Electric Guard Dog Fence, you’ll enter into a security-as-a-service (SaaS) agreement. With our SaaS model, you’ll pay a manageable monthly fee with no upfront costs.

We’ll maintain ownership of The Electric Guard Dog Fence throughout our partnership. This means we’re fully responsible for maintaining and repairing your electric fence as long as you haven’t modified it or the fence line in any way. Please note that repairs required due to unauthorized modifications or tampering are not covered under our SaaS agreement and will be your responsibility.

After you sign the contract, one of our project managers (PMs) will call you within 48 hours to discuss the next steps. They’ll be your single point of contact from permitting through fence activation. Your PM will handle all aspects of installation and ensure the process runs smoothly.

With a dedicated point of contact, you can expect streamlined, responsive communication. Your PM will always keep you updated on the project’s progress.

3. Let Us Handle Permitting and Compliance

Leave all compliance and permitting requirements to our experienced compliance team. Your PM will collaborate with our compliance department to ensure your electric fence meets all applicable regulations, local building codes, and safety standards. You’ll hear from the compliance manager at least every two weeks for an update on permitting status.

The permitting phase is typically the longest part of the installation process. You can expect compliance and permitting to take a few weeks because multiple parties have to review the installation plan and ensure it complies with the relevant laws. We make sure this phase is hassle-free for you.

4. Meet With Us to Confirm the Details

Before installation, your PM will send a technician to inspect your perimeter and ensure it’s ready. The technician will also discuss the project’s details with you and answer any questions. They’ll determine if vegetation or assets must be cleared before moving forward.

We require a clearance of 5 to 10 feet from the fence line so our team has enough space to work. If you need assistance removing vegetation, we’re happy to help. With our vegetation control services, our team can provide initial clearing as well as ongoing maintenance.

Installation Part II: What to Expect During Installation

Once the site is prepared, our crew will work to make the installation as smooth as possible to ensure minimal disruption to your business. Here’s what you can expect:

What to Expect During Installation

1. We’ll Schedule the Installation and Ship Materials

After we receive the required permits from your local jurisdiction, your PM will schedule the installation and delivery of the electric fence materials. The materials will come in two shipments, which can be scheduled to arrive when it works best for you. For example, if you prefer, we can send the fence components early while we wait for permitting. When the shipments arrive, we handle unloading and placement.

2. Our Crew Will Install the Electric Fence System

Your PM will send our experienced installation crew and licensed contractor to install the electric fence and any enhancements or additional solutions you’ve selected. The Electric Guard Dog Fence is a multi-layered defense system that comes with the following:

  • Fencing components, including steel fence posts, conductive wires, and insulators
  • A self-contained power system, which includes batteries and solar panels
  • Audible and silent alarms that trigger when a would-be intruder attempts to breach the fence
  • Lights that trigger with the fence alarms
  • Alarm monitoring and notification
  • Bright yellow, multilingual warning signs

Fence installation takes about one to two weeks, depending on the size of your property. Our highly trained installation team has this process down to a science to minimize disruption, no matter the size or layout of your property.

3. We’ll Provide Training

We’ll train you and your team to operate The Electric Guard Dog Fence. It’s easy and doesn’t require much training time, as operators can quickly learn how to arm and disarm the fence from a user-friendly mobile app.

Still, we’ll provide comprehensive instruction to ensure your team feels confident operating the fence from day one.

What About Post-Installation?

Our relationship doesn’t end after we install the electric fence. We are available 24/7 throughout the lifetime of your system.

Your PM will hand you over to our customer support team, ready to answer any post-installation questions you have around the clock. If you need to be retrained on electric fence operation or want help training new employees, let us know. We’ll come back to provide further instruction at no additional charge.

We also have a nationwide network of expertly trained field support technicians who perform timely maintenance and repairs. This vast network allows us to reach your property faster than competitors whenever your perimeter security solutions need technical attention.

Our online customer portal, The ROK, makes it easy to submit work orders, communicate with our customer service team, and download system reports.

FAQs

Review our FAQs below for more information about electric fence installation. You can also reach out to us for assistance.

1. What Are the Upfront Costs for Installation?

Zero. With our security–as–a–service model, you’ll pay a manageable monthly fee for the electric fence and any optional enhancements or add-ons you choose. Unlimited fence maintenance and repairs are covered in your monthly investment.

You will need a structurally sound outer fence before we install The Electric Guard Dog Fence. This ensures compliance with International Electrotechnical Commission standards. Therefore, if you don’t already have a standard fence, you’ll have to pay the cost to install one. We can assist with installing a chain-link or other type of perimeter fence.

2. Who Is Responsible for Maintaining and Repairing the Electric Fence?

We are responsible for all repairs and maintenance unless the customer tampers with or alters the fence as defined by our contract. Otherwise, our customers’ only responsibility is maintaining the grounds around the fence, like mowing the grass and keeping vegetation down.

If you want us to handle ongoing vegetation control for you, we’ll simply add these services to your monthly fee.

3. How Does AMAROK Ensure a High-Quality Installation When Dealing With Unusual Site Conditions or Other Challenges?

Our installers take making the installation process easy for our customers very seriously, no matter what challenges they face. Our installers take matters into their own hands to keep your project on track. For example, when facing an extremely tight site and ground covered in limestone at a Texas freight yard, our team dug holes by hand, more than 5 feet deep, to set the steel poles of the fence.

In another instance, our installers had to think outside the box when facing a massive, 3,500-linear-foot equipment rental yard, a fence line full of curves and turns, and a site covered in fresh sod and soaked by heavy rain. To preserve the sod, we had to find different ways to get into the yard and carefully work along the fence line with our equipment. The installers dug and set 40 steel poles that snaked back and forth around the site and installed nine cameras set on 20-foot poles, individually angled for thorough coverage.

They also had to work with no power. When they began to install intrusion detection inside the building, with no electricity, they hauled in a generator and completed the job. Their grit and vigilance turned what could have been a wet, soggy mess into a successful installation.

The dedication of our installation crews is demonstrated in the many years they’ve been with us, the depths they go to in order to secure your site, and their everyday commitment to caring for your yard, even when you’re not there. Who better to have in your yard after hours than your security partner?
